Beauty Care & Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil, Coconut Oil and Coconut Oil  .... Yes, No one ever thinks of the humble Coconut Oil, which  is the best  remedy for all the skin and hair care problems.  It has been like that for a long time, our anchestors did not have any of the beauty care products which we have now. They had oils, oil massages for the hair and the body and that was the only care they gave in those days.
Coconut oil in the beauty regimen:
1. For hair care, warm coconut oil witha few peppercorns thrown in, if you like. Massage that warm oil in to the scalp and hair till the ends liberally. If it is summer you can leave it overnight but in the winter wash it off after an hour.  No problem, if you do not want to use home made Shikakai you can use any herbal shampoo you like. Oil will keep your head cool, regular massaging like this will prevent dandruff.  You will not any conditioner after that. Your hair will start shining soon.
2. For dry and chapped lips apply coconut oil liberally in the night before going to bed. If you do not like to leave it overnight just clean it off with an old soft cloth.
3. Instead of winter care lotion adda drop of coconut oil into the last rinse.  Your body will get the type of softness you wanted always.  For the hands and cracked feet apply a mixture of coconut oil and petroleum jelly liberally. You can always be proud of your hands.
4. Add a spoonful coconut oil into the face pack and mix well. The oil will leave your skin soft and shining.
The anti microbial properties of coconut oil will help the skin look beautiful and healthy.
Always remember that cocnut oil has medicinal properties. It cools and soothes the head and provides stress relief.  Dry skin problems can be solved with the help of coconut oil. Keratosis Pilaris which affects as a bumpy skin will be helped by coconut oil. But for this treatment regular use of coconut oil should be there.
Regular body bath with coconut oil will clear the skin of all the problems and make your skin shine and glow.
For best results avoid refined varieties of coconut oil, these are bleached, deodorised and refined. So you should always  remember to use the unrefined coconut oil, since the refined varieties filters away most of the medicinal properties of coconut oil.

Exfoliation

Exfoliation should be done regularly to get a smooth and silky skin. Exfoliating the skin frees the skin surface off its dead cells and prepares for the fresh one to emerge.
For the oily skins, exfoliation helps the dead cells to fall off, without letting it to clog the pores of the skin..
For the dry skin, it helps to clear up the skin by removing the flaky and dull cells.
When we get older our skins tend to slow down the renewal process. The dead cells collects up not letting the new cell form. These problems can be and are cleared with exfoliation.

There are two types of exfoliation. They are: 1. manual and 2. chemical exfoliations.

1.
Manual Exfoliation involves the method of using abrasive products, which are available in the markets ie, silk mitts, wash cloths, loofahs and body scrubs.

Soft body brush or loofahs can be used for dry exfoliation. This type really rejuvenates the person who is doing it. It helps in detoxifying the body by improving the circulation and removes the tardiness and the puffiness. The gentle pressure by which we do this type of exfoliation helps in calming ones nerves and relaxes you and gives you confidence in yourself.

Slowly start scrubbing / brushing from the feet to the upper part of the body, in short circular motions.Apply very gentle pressure, avoid broken skin and the areas where the skin surface is very thin like the the inner thighs.

After you finish the thighs go up to your arms and then your body in the same way. Once you finish your scrubbing wash off and take your bath as usual.

For the face use a soft exfoliator like Besan / Gram flour or else get a readymade exfoliators like Everyuth walnut scrub or Himalayas scrub etc. If you can use it with a little kasturi turmeric powder, it would be the best to clear the blackheads and the suntan too.

Take small portion of the scrub and gently massage it onto the moist skin . If you have an oily skin do it 2-3 times a week . otherwise once a week should be enough.

2.
Chemical Exfoliation is less irritating and less damaging than the manual ones. They are prescribed by the dermatologists or the beauticians. It contains alpha hydroxyl acids and beta hydroxyl acids.

It is better to go to a beauty parlour to do this. It is not safe enough to do at home by yourself.
Once a month you have to visit the parlour for the peel.

You can also use some of the scrubs  from the brands which are available in the shops but always remember to use toner and moisturizer after that.

Soft and Manageable Hair

1. Do you at any time either winter or summer use hot water for your hair?

2. When you use shower do you ever bend forward and wash your hair or just stand straight with your hair on your back?

If you answer yes to the first question, then it is very bad for your hair. Use water that is just slightly warm not even luke warm. Even luke warm water will give you this dryness problem and the hair will look spiky and uncontrollable.

If you want to use luke warm water for your bath then apply a few drops of oil into the ends of hair and spread it all over just after you wash your hair. You'll be able to manage your hair better.

If you ever stand straight, with your hair at the back, you tend to pour hot water down on to your hair also. This will spoil the hair and sometimes you tend to lose lots of hair too. Always bend and put the hair in to the front and then give it a wash. Once you have cleaned off the shampoo, tie it up in a separate towel on to the top of your head. Then finish your body bath.

You can dry your hair after that with the towel starting from the scalp to the ends. Give it a try and tell me how it is. Leave it to dry in open air. Do not use the hair drier, since it'll make the hair more drier.

Drink lots of water and fruit juices to keep your hair and scalp hydrated and this will help lots in getting the problems right.

The Right Steps to be Followed

Yes, The right steps should be followed if one wants to grow long hair. As I told you earlier, that it is a long term commitment. If you have to grow about 8" - 10" of hair, most probably it'll take about 12 to 14 months. For some it may be quicker as per their genetic trait.

The length of hair is hereditary, which we can't change much, but what we can do is to look after it nicely and carefully so that we get the maximum length we can get and maintain it healthy and shining.

Nutrition:

It is very very important that we take care of our diet. It should be nutritious , full of vitamins, calcium and proteins. Always add foods rich in proteins and calcium like milk and milk products, dry fruits and nuts, fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables.

You have to drink fluids, so that your body is able to flush out the toxins and waste material regularly and clearly. Only if your body is healthy, you can have healthy glowing face and hair.

You have to minimize the use of heat on your hair
. Unless necessary and unavoidable , do not use hair driers, curling irons or straightening rods. These things spoil your hair roots and make the hair dry and brittle. It'll get you split ends and that is the worst enemy of long hair.

You have to be very careful with these split ends. Trim them off now and then to maintain hair growth but then the growth will get slower but the hair will be healthy and thick.

Avoid tension, be relaxed at all times. Keep your calm, if need be, then meditate for sometime in the mornings to keep tension far. Get at least 8-9 hours sleep daily. If you look after your health well, your hair will also be healthy and will not give you any trouble.

To Grow Your Hair

Growing hair is a very patient job. It takes at least three months to start seeing the results after you start to care for your hair.

It won't take very long for your hair to fall but to see it grow one has to have a lot of patience. But the end result will be the best you could ever have.

Hair extensions and transplanting are in some way or the other are hurting to the ego. If there is no other go then one can opt for that. If there is a little chance of getting real long hair then I would say go for it the natural way. You'll be proud of your hair and your achievement.

Hair growth is very slow. It'll grow at the rate of half an inch or more in a month i e about 6-8 " in a year. So you'll see the growth very late that is it'll take three months at least to show the result.

1. Look after your care nicely. You have to care for your hair . It should be clean, scrupulously squeaky clean. The hair should never feel greasy or sticky to the touch.
If you ever feel that your hair is sticky then you are late for your hair wash. You'll start seeing locks of hair on your comb. Oil massage and shampoo your hair before that happens.

2. Use mild herbal shampoos for that purpose. Make hair conditioner a habit or after bath when your hair is still damp apply a little oil on to your palms and just rub it into your hair. Finish off with the last rinse. Your hair will not have that dull look. It will shine with that little oil.

Method of using the hair oil

Some have the habit of washing the hair daily. I do. For those, slight application of a little hair oil with their fingertips on to their scalps will be enough.

For those who wash their hair only twice or thrice a week:

They can apply oil into the scalp the night before they have their hair wash. Massage your scalp nicely with the hair oil. You need not use oil liberally but a little ju7st enough for your scalp, so that it does not get dry and brittle. You also have to watch your hair ends so that it is well oiled. Tie your hair up and wash it the next day morning with a mild herbal shampoo.

For those who wash their once a week:

You have to have hot oil massage every week to see that your hair is oiled and is hydrated. Part your hair and with a cotton wool dipped in warmed oil, apply the whole of scalp and the hair till the ends. You have to use oil liberally. Then use your fingertips to massage your scalp nicely. Dip towel into hot water , squeeze it out of extra water and tie it up around your hair.
Change twice or thrice when the towel gets cold. Wash it after an hour atleast.

Dos and don'ts:

Please, please do not use drier to dry you hair.
Do not wet comb your hair.
Do not use bands on wet hair.
Let the hair open and dry out naturally. Or use a towel to wipe the extra water dripping.
Slightly rub the scalp to get the extra moisture out.
Do not use a comb for untangling the knots. If you have to, then use your fingers or a wide toothed comb.
