How to choose a puppy for your home?
Do you like pets? particularly dogs? Pets are the wonderful companions of mankind and they take us and be with us through thick and thin. They are the most loving and grateful of all the animals in the world. If you want to choose a puppy for your home you will have to think over and answer some of the questions.
There are many breeds in the dogs and you have to be sure which one you would love to have in your home. You have to be sure that you have enough time, space and the patience for training and looking after the puppy.
Different breeds come with different characteristics, you will first have to understand what they are and which characteristics you would want your pet to have. I would like you to attend the Dog shows held at your place, see what the breeds are which can be bred at your place. Talk to the breeders and try and understand the different characteristics. Read through various books and surf the net for the particular dog's characteristics.
If you are a first timer it would better to collect all the details about the breed of the puppy and learn as much as you can before bringing home a puppy. There are several things to be considered before deciding on the breed.
1 Time : First you have to ask yourself how much time you can spend with the puppy as some of them will not be happy left in the backyard tied up and alone. You should commit yourself to spend time with them, with some breeds you will have to spend hours altogether.
2. Space : Next , the Space you can provide for the pet - Some breeds even though they are small will need regular exercises and you should be able to provide for their needs. You should not get fooled by the size of the dog and think that size will be ok in a small apartment. A terrier even though small will need a lot of exercise but the mastiffs which are bigger in size might be just content to lie down in a corner and do nothing.
3. Budget : The amount you are prepared to set aside for the pet will be for its food, veterinary check ups, vaccinations and routine medical care etc. The dog will need regular caring if it has to stay healthy. This will be needed for the ehole lifetime of the dog. So be prepared to care of the dog and spend as much time and money as you can. Money should also be there for the medical emergencies the dogs might get into.
4. Exercise : You have to talk to the breeders and find out about the exercise it will need through out its life. Some smaller dogs need a lot of exercise and spome bigger ones will not need much. So fond out which will be right for you and your family. You have to be dedicated to your dog, only then you will also get a loyal, lovely and happy looking dog.
5. Training : Training is must for the pet. You have to decide how much training you can or you want to give your pet. Regardless of the dog you bring home, the training you give will make your dog much more compatible with you and be more easily a part of your life.
6. Grooming : Some dogs need less group particularly if they are of the less hairy type. If you get the hairy types like Alsatian, Dalmatian etc you should be ready to accept the shedding of the hair which happens regularly. Some of them like Lhasa Apso and Pomerenian may need clipping and stripping of the hair which some others may not need.
There are some dogs which shed hair but require no grooming and these are some of the very serious considerations which you have to think about. Almost all the dogs need nail clipping and bathing regularly.
7. Last but not the least you have to think about the sex of the animal. Advantages and disadvantages, pros and cons are there for every breed. Think about them or talk about them with the people who have experience in them. About characteristics also you will have to think and then decide. Different breeds have different characteristics and they have been bred for that particular purpose. Whatever their breed characteristics, even Dogs have their own individual qualities and variety exists within each breed. Breeds are only just an indicator of what you can expect from a particular breed.
